Knowing God, Showing God, Sharing God

MISSION STATEMENT

“To be a Christ-centred, spirit-filled, worshipping, growing community”

GENERAL BACKGROUND

One of St. Mary Magdalene’s strengths is that it is a friendly, welcoming evangelical church.

The church is a member of the Evangelical Alliance and has two church patrons, Simeon’s Trustees and Church Patronage Trust.

The churchmanship is low church,

Evangelical, charismatic. Clergy usually wear cassock, surplice and scarf for communion, although the general feeling though is that the church should move away from

the formal robed tradition and be more accessible to the unchurched and allow for the freedom of movement of the Holy Spirit.

The church congregation encompasses all ages. As a church we do recognise the importance of reaching out in mission and both the Youth Club and Meals Scheme are seen a missionary activities.

CHURCH OFFICIALS

The Ministry Team includes two licensed Readers, a Reader with permission to officiate and an ordained retired minister.

They are very active in the church helping where needed - leading, preaching or officiating at services.

We also have able and talented laity who take part in services by reading the lessons, taking the prayers, leading services and assisting with Holy Communion. Many would be willing to undertake training in the form of a short course but are unable to consider a three year reader’s training course because of present commitments.

The churchwardens are hard-working; being both practically and spiritually minded. They are involved with all aspects of church life. The PCC are committed and prayerful in their entire decision making and very much wait on the Lord for guidance.
